Every year, one member of each municipal committee, board, or commission expires annually. At that time the current member may elect to stay on, but the vacancy will be posted and all interested parties will be interviewed for the position.

Town Board Member (AKA Town Councilmember) Vacancy
The Town Board is the legislative and executive body of the Town. A Town Board Member participates in governing the Town by working collaboratively with the Supervisor and fellow Board members to set policy, adopt local laws, oversee Town finances, and ensure the effective delivery of municipal services.
The recent election of Town Board Member Michael Hartner to the position of Town Supervisor creates a Town Board Member vacancy for the term January 1, 2026, through December 31, 2027, which, per NYS Town Law, is to be filled by appointment of the Town Board taking office on January 1, 2026.
Individuals interested in applying to fill this vacancy are requested to email the Town Clerk, townclerk@townofgardinerny.gov, no later than December 28, 2025, including a resume or statement of relevant experience and education, and a statement of why they are interested in the position. The appointment is expected to be made in January or February, after interviews are conducted.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Attending and participating in regular and special Town Board meetings and public hearings.
Reviewing, discussing, potentially drafting, and voting on local laws, resolutions, contracts, and other official actions.
Participating in the development, review, and adoption of the annual Town budget.
Providing oversight of Town departments, services, and expenditures in accordance with New York State Town Law and other applicable statutes.
Engaging with residents, listening to community concerns, and representing the interests of the Town as a whole.
Serving as liaison to assigned committees, boards, or community groups as designated by the Town Board or Supervisor.
Completing required training or continuing education applicable to municipal officers.

The Gardiner Town Board is seeking volunteers to serve on the Board of Commissioners of our newly created town-wide Ambulance district. Applicants should be familiar with emergency services: ambulance services, firematics and/or municipal government.
